Propshaft access

I've just seen a pic from a fellow LCBer with their chassis upside down and the floor panel in place, and as with a fair few other cars I've seen it's paneled across the bottom of the transmission tunnel. However, my intention was to leave the propshaft accessible from underneath, perhaps with a detachable panel to improve airflow and to protect the propshaft.

Are there any pros and cons to either approach, is it easier to work on the propshaft from above rather than below?

Mine is panelled in totally and if it has to come out, it will be a pita but has not caused any problem yet

Even if you remove the panel i don,t think you can get it out as the 20mm box section at each end of the tunnel trapping it in.

If it can't come out due to the box section, how does it get in there in the first place?

Mine slides in past the diff.

Diff out or engine / box out is the only way in a MK indy

On my narrow locost I could drop the prop out of the gap between the floorpans but the flange on the diff end was a different matter...

If you are going to panel it in then consider adding prop catcher now.

If you don't have a 2 or 4 post lift then access from underneath is pretty tough anyway.

Mines boxed in, entry is via the front so engine out job.

In the past I have had the engine out three times, diff out three times and have yet to remove the prop, it's not really a worry.

Removable top on transmission tunnel. My propshaft can be maneuvered back under diff at an angle so it comes out of the gearbox. Then slides up and out of the tunnel via the top.
