help with chassis???
mad_skillz - 16/10/02 at 09:43 PM

I went to have a look at a chassis but there is a tube (H) missing from the trans tunnel, is it so the gearbox can go in then be welded back into place? or is it a bad thing? thanks

perhaps its been left out cos it fouls the starter motor and the builder will weld it in when he knows the clearance needed. It needs to be there.

the bit thats usually missing is the one at 90 deg to it on the floor. It can hit the gearbox. on my car it ran neatly in a recess of the box. It can help rigidity a lot, apparently, if its fitted.

Or is that because they were thinking of fitting bike eng ?

There is also the mounts for the engine missing. (can't remember the letter, but it's the infamous 7" or 5" depending which bit of the book you believe)
Probably the same reason has been suggested, it was designed without having decided which engine / g'box combination would be used.

when i saw it there were stubbs at the bottom. I looks like there was tube there but its been cut out.

Is this something you are considering to buy?
If so you will have to do some welding at some point, so the quality of the welds and 'squareness' of the chassis is more important.
