just checking before i hurtle ahead and make another mess!!!! as i am using a wider axle capri/cortina sourced from a dax rush? will i have to
change front w/bone measurements/geometry, also why does it seem that so many people choose to buy in ready made w/bones is there a problem
safety wise or as i have not tried yet are they difficult to make. Finally as i have both capri axle and now sierra should i cut out the live

If you make your own wishbones you can compensate for the castor angle error and move the upper attachments to a more suitable position.

If you get into designing your own IRS you'll spend 6 months longer (atleast) getting the car on the road.
Keep the front geometry the same. Yes, the rear track will be (4?)" wider than the front but it doesn't seem to matter to those that have
done this and know what they're doing when it comes to driving (ie. Jon Ison).
You'll also help prevent the 'caravanning look' of wheels being too far inside the rear arches! 
As for making you own wishbones... how's your welding? If you don't trust your welding then buy them. If you do then they're not too
hard- just make sure you build a really good jig.
Also, the book dimensions are wrong. The castor should be 22mm not the 11mm that the book had it.

Book wishbones are not a great design --- in fact the book lower wishbone design is marginal to say the least.
Most of the well known names do improved design particularly for cars with the wider track width. GTS and NMR sites have good pics.

You may already be aware that on www.gtstuning.co.uk you can download a drawing showing you how to make an easy mod to your chassis to take the Sierra
axle. Also on there you will find wide track front wishbones which will match the rear track, with it providing superior levels of front grip. It also
stops you misjudging the width of the rear in tight spots!
