I am now thinking seriously of building a frame. I started out wanting to buy one but the more I read, the more I am sure I can build one myself. I want to have a pinto engine and probably all sierra parts if possible.

What sort of cost am I looking at for the parts (steel)?

Steel will cost about £80-100. Depending on where you get it etc. Factor in the cost of a welder and other tools, plus your time.

If you are a competent welder then building your own chassis shouldnt be too difficult.

That's great. My brother has an Arc Welder and can weld (see post in tools section) I thought it'd cost more than that though!!!

Does anyone have a set of plans specifically for a full sierra, one car chassis? I saw the ones from the chap who did the great PDF of the drawings (can't remember his name) but this was not just sierra based was it?

I know the book chassis also has 'issues' and has been revised.

I think I paid about 120 quid for the steel for the chassis including delivery from parkers steel but that doesn't include any plate but then you have to pay more for that when you buy a ready made chassis.

I've had highs and lows while building mine (still building) and you frequently question your own abilities but it's incredibly satisfying and, if you take your time, you should end up with a strong chassis... well, I hope I will anyway

Chunkie You can get a full set of chassis plans for a sierra based car from Darren at GTS Tuning. The cost about £10 when i bought mine. Take a trip to his web site and have a look.

don't forget the mcsorely plans, they are fine if you go for a dedion rear end using hte free mod diagrams on gts's website to fit the dedion axle. or are you going ot use the sierra trailing arm setup or make your own IRS? if so the tiger avon book may be some help or at least a starting point.

Well after avoneers u2u I am maybe not making a chassis but changing one!!!

Offer I can't refuse and all that - my missus is gonna kill me!!

I want to use a one car donor so it will all be the sierra stuff. What would I need to do to a Macsorley 7+442 to make it all fit - maybe IRS would tempt me though.....
