I'm finally at a point where I can choose a width for my chassis (based on my donor axle) and I want to be sure there is enough
clearance between the inside of my tires (47.5") and my current chassis plans (book +4 = 46"). That leaves only 3/4" clearance and it seems a little too close for comfort.

What's an appropriate clearance between the chassis and the inside edge of the wheel/tire for a live axle design?

Hope you get a good answer from bit this and the other list you posted on Jim.

As was said on 'tother list, if using book suspension, the swing arms are gonna be the thing to look out for that come frm chassis to axle.

I've noticed the same problem using a mk2 Escort axle. Can't remember who told me but apparently it'll all go together fine. If not, it shouldn't be too much hassle to use wheel spacers and long wheel bolts to increase the track width a little.

I recently found rose/heim joint brackets that are about 30mm wide instead of the book's 50mm. By using heim joints on the chassis side of the linkage I have a full 50mm clearance for the tires.
