Don't mention the tubes to him. Now that they're hexagonal he gets tearful and sentimental about the good old days of round tubes and popping lids.

Yup!

I heard a radio (4! ) program where the designer (or whoever) was on. It's not so much a cost saving (hex is more expensive than round) but a marketing and transportation/packaging thing IIRC.
