I was wondering which of the two designs is the prettiest? I mean, which of the two would look better proportioned? (if that makes any sense) I guess nobody has pictures comparing them side by side for a good comparrison..? A couple of inch here and there doesn't sound like a whole lot, but since the 7 is a tiny car to begin with... opinions?

An inch is quite a lot (ask the wife!)
I think even an Indy or Mac1 etc looks too heavy in the sides.

The book chassis width is good if using an escort rear axle. With the wider sierra it looks a bit silly because if the width of the rear wings. With a sierra axle, use a wider body, you may as well.

The chassis needn't be anly longer than the book, unless you want to fit a long engine. A 6'10" friend of mine can sit in the passenger side of my vortx with straight legs without his feet touching the bulk head. There is room for a bit of weight saving in the cockpit area I think.

For looks only, just move the scuttle back a few inches. Here is an excerpt fron Keith Tanners website, he wrote the American book (it has more pages, bigger=better)

The most obvious difference between my car and a Caterham is the placement of the scuttle. The steering wheel is in approximately the same place on both cars. This explains why my engine appears so much further back than the Caterhams and why a Caterham shift knob always appears to be so far forward. Due to the rearward placement, the scuttle is wider and this is one reason my windshield looks tall. Despite appearances, the wheelbase is almost identical.
