Highly recommend Herb Adam's "Chassis engineering" for a beginners book. Gives you enough knowledge in a very easy to understand manner. After that Caroll Smith has several books worth reading. If you understand those and then want more technical stuff you had better be good at math and be ready to start studying full time in auto engineering.

There are plenty on suspension design, but chassis design is a bit more difficult. I have all of Carroll Smiths books and would recommend them. I like his straight forward writing style and he talks sense. I would credit him for teaching me more than anybody else on all aspects of car design, building and preperation as well as tuning me!

I have picked up bits on chassis design from all my books. But can not say there is one that tells you how to design a chassis.

Well, once the susp is planned the chassis layout is easy enough. Just connect the dots. What would be nice to know is just how thick bracket A or tube X should be. That way you can cut weight .
