Ok, didn't know what forum to put this in so this will do.
Before gicing my whole chassis the POR-15 treatment, I thought I'd try on my front lower bones and engine cradle.
1st was to spray MARINE CLEAN all over them, leave them 15 minutes then thoroughly rinse and dry with a hairdryer.
Here they are dripping with MARINE CLEAN before rinsing:

Once I had rinsed them and believe me, the water was brown, I sprayed them with METAL READY.
Left them 15 minutes, rinsed, dried with the hairdryer and was left with this, ready for the 1st coat of POR-15.

Used this with very good results.
Painted an old rusty nail as a test piece and left it outside in the elements over a year ago to see how it coped, and it's still fine.
Defenitly worth using the Metal Ready First.
Read the Instructions, it Ain't Healthy stuff to work with....
But expect you know this already

Anyway, apart from the dust content in my garage and using a cheap brush, the finish has come out really well and very glossy.
Not perfect, due to the dust and brush, but bloody good.
If I sprayed them, like I am doing the chassis, it would be as good as powdercoat.
Watch this space for the 2nd coat update tomorrow although I will be painting it tonight then going to bed.
Chassis being painted this weekend as well.
Just about to start another thread about that to see if I have any bits missing before painting it.

As an experiment I tried using a brush to apply a similar product, "Rust Bullet". The stuff smelled terrible, but in the end it did as promised, but there were way too much brush marks. Said another way, it sucked donkey nuts. Really bad. I ended up having it powdercoated.
