As above, Whats the best type and size of tubing for my rollcage as i'm replacing the 50mm*5.5mm tubing that i'm using at the moment. (
it's a wee bit heavy)
I won't be using the car for competition but some saftey at tackdays would be nice
ATB Dan.
5.5mm
3mm cds should be plenty
50mm x 2.5 should be fine (don't have MSA spec to hand) CDS obviously.
T45 is stronger, so can be made thinner and therefore lighter, but there have been comments on here that it's not as good in a multiple roll.
(search should find it). It's also expensive.
Would have thought 5.5mm would make you more likely to roll
HI most people use 1 1/2" - 38mm by 2.6mm cds . if you are going to do some track days you might as well incorporate rear stays aswell in your
desighn. Whilst you are at it make shure you make the cage 50mm above your head as per blue book whith a helmet on as you may just get the bug for a
bit of sprinting or simmalar . Plus if you ever decide to sell the car it wont hurt to have a cage on to the blue book spec.
cheers matt
Mines going to be 38mm ish by 3mm - cause thats whats available.
the extra half mill doesn't concern me as i'm looking at it being stronger therefore better!
Comparing 50x5.5 to 38x2.6, I recon the saving will be approx 4.2 kg per metre of tube.
Cheers

Incidentally, just so you know, RACMSA non homologated manufacturer spec tube minimums are:
38 x 2.5mm or 45 x 2.5mm or 50 x 2mm
