Bigger chassis
Danozeman - 8/5/03 at 06:44 PM

Hi all, im new here. Hope you can all help me and i will try and help you.

Right then, im building the 'book' locost for 250 quid(250 is already out of the window). I had most of the metal cut to make the standard size chassis with intention of pinto power. I was considering making the chassis bigger to have more room... I had a very good opertunity of Ford V8 running gear which i have taken so now my locost becomes a bit of a mad task.

My questions to you are:-

Has anyone made there chassis bigger? if so was it hard to do.. I have worked out most of the measurements..

Has anyone made a chassis and put a V8 in it??

Cheers hope you can help..

Luego do a pre-built 'bigger' chassis called a Viento. The other advantage is it runs the Sierra back end with wishbones so no need to source an escort axle.

Hi Dan(?)

I've built a larger chassis- for the hell of it largely, although I also wanted to fit Sierra running gear and a Pinto.

Unless necessary I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as it's been a time-consuming excercise!

If you're going to do it then I'd highly recommend doing a CAD of your plans first. Fortunately Jim McSorley http://www.mcsorley.net has already done it for you!

His fantastic site (spin that chassis baby ) has accurate standard chassis plans and also plans for a larger chassis.

HTH,

James
