Bet you are glad you asked now !
Unfortunayely our estimed webmaster is very busy with other things so this site is not his top priority at the moment. It is unfortunate that there is
not the resource to build a decent FAQ which would be a great asset to the site, most of us are too busy building or enjoying our cars .
Equally i agree that the search facility is not the best, again it would be possible to change this probably with less effort than building the FAQ,
it does help to know a bit about the site and whose posts to search for, something you only learn after being on for a while.
Generally this forum has been remarkably free of flaming and very welcoming to noobies I would be very unhappy for this to change even if we are
answering ,in the first instance, questions that have been asked many times before.
Welcome martin1973 and MY answer to your question is however much steel you buy you will be short by one length on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday
morning that will, probably more than once in your build, prevent you finishing what you had planned to do that weekend! If you manage not to run out
of steel then it will be welding gas wire or something else!
The McSorely cut list is pretty accurate however don't cut all your tubes in advance cut the steel as you need it checking and measuring each
bit, you are bound to make one or two cock ups so you will use more steel though the odd bits will do for something somewhere!
Welcome to the mad house you will learn who knows about what and the search works better the more boxes you fill in and you should read all the thread
that the search turns up a link in, if you are lucky you will find the answer after a couple of threads!
Have fun with your project

There is an FAQ wiki site set up by Andy Harding. Not many have contributed yet unfortunately.

I people contributed the answer a simple pointer to the above would do the trick.
p.s. The McSorley plans come with a cutting list spreadsheet.

apprentice yes i was once and have trained a few to.
no longer in motor trade work from a recycling co now.
will try the search thing then.
You could always just add up the length of all the tubes in your plans. I think I ordered something like 48m of 1" box, but I added a lot of extra tubes.
I carnt remember the exact amount but
42M 25x25 ERW
18M 19x19 ERW
18M 19Diax2mm thick tube
1 off 3mm thick 2mx1.5m sheet mild steel
1 off 1.5mm thick 2mx1.5m sheet mild steel
This gave me more than enough to fix any errors i made and some left over for other bits and bobs that was handy to make for the garage. Think i paid
circa £130 for the lot
Edit oh and 2 off 1.5mm thick 2mx1.5m ally sheet
