GTS rear End problem

A couple of questions which I'm sure someone can help with:
1. I'm trying to make the GTS rear end as on Flak Monkeys site but what angle should the two stubby vertical pieces be cut at? I worked it out but when I put the diagonal crossmembers in to the lengths shown the rear squared section sits almost horizontal which I know is wrong. What am I missing here? (Hope it all made sense that)
2. Leading on from above, when I fit my trailing arms for my De Dion, whereabouts up or down do I stick the brackets? Is there a science to it so's to stop the axle whacking off things?

I used the GTS plans without any issues, or at least I can't remember having any (which may of course be an entirely different thing).
When you say diagonal crossmembers do you mean the ones from the top chassis tube (at rollbar level) or the bottom ones (below diff)?

Sorry. I meant diagonally from the top tube. I must be missing summat here. I'll have to have another look at it. What about the bracket mounting heights?

The stubby bits used to be fitted at 90 degrees to the lower rails, but I know Darren changed this design. He used to have a PDF showing all the mods required, give him a ring and he will probably be able to email it to you.

The brackets for the trailing arms on the chassis should go in the standard book positions. However don't just use standard suspension type brackets by themselves, they end up only being supported accross about half of their width and will crack pretty quickly, especialy with the ultra stiff polybushes that GTS use. A search through the archives will show the various solutions that people have used, Mark Allanson's photo archive would be a good start.

No, I intend to fill in that back panel with 3mm steel and put bolt through that as well. Ned - you're not joking about having loads of photos are you

Ah got it. Its because on the GTS rear plans, its a lower height than the rear of the McSorley and I was compensating by moving the squared grid section instead of the crossmember. Dunno how I missed this as I've read it twice as was told about it personally. What a d1ck!

It's not that end of the brackets that break, it's the overhanging section on the outside. No amount of beefing up the inside will help support the outer end of the bracket. At the very minimum you should put in a strip of metal to brace the end of the bracket back to the tube on which it's welded.
