Welding Suspension Brackets
smdl - 10/10/06 at 06:15 PM

Hi, All.

Should the suspension brackets be attached before or after the chassis is fully welded? My chassis fabrication is almost complete, but everything is still just tacked. I am wondering if I should tack the brackets on now, and then fully weld, or wait until full welding is done so that I have an opportunity to adjust the mounting points to accommodate any distortion.

Thanks,
Shaun

Wait until after. It allows hiding a multitude of fabrication sins and heat (welding) distortion.

Good for you to ask!

I'm with kb58 on this one! Wait 'til after the frame's welded.

If the chassis moves or twists slightly when it is welded, it will move the suspension mounts with it. If you weld the mounts on afterwards, they will be straight.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, at least I managed to ask ONE question in advance!! Usually, I do the damage first, and then ask for guidance!
