Any of you guys in the west country, (ie Wiltshire, Somerset) have any idea where i can source the steel sections. The yellow pages have a few vendors but they are a bit widely spaced around the area and the budgets going to a bit limited. i dont really want to spend more in petrol picking things up that the cost in materials...

If I were you I would go to my nearest steel fabricators (or stockists if closer), go to the back door and tell them what you want. I get mine from Ashmore and Allen in Swindon which is North Wilts but there's got to be someone closer than that to you. You might be surprised at how much steel you can get for £100. Check out their offcuts for suitable plate for floors, brackets etc. Paying cash is good but you will need a receipt for the steel for the SVA. Go to someone close and establish a rapport with them because you will almost certainly be back to raid their offcut bin.

Ashmore and Allen are in Seymour Road, Walcot, Swindon. Quite difficult to find, in the middle of a housing estate so you will need a street map. I find them friendly and helpful. The 1" 16g tube they stock in 6metre lengths, so figure out what you can get in your car before you go, and they will cut into 2 or 3 mtr lengths for you.
