I am just about to start chassis and intend to fit ford zetec engine, are there any size problems using this engine and standard book chassis

thanks

The only problem i have seen in standard chassis builds that i can think of is the steering downlink from column end to rack.

The oil filter can be a bit of a pain as its in the direct route of the steering shaft, options are UJ to dog leg the shaft and or smaller renault 5 turbo filter which i think stands at about 50mm maybe a bit less.

This problem can depend on which zetec you use,i've got a series 1 silvertop going in my indy and it is a prob,i've seen other zetec engines with a filter in a much better position and im sure pics and info will appear soon. Rescued attachment 04740003.jpg.small.jpg

Keeping the Zetec plenum means a humungous great hole in the bonnet doesn't it???

Height is difficult in a book chassis , I need to make a shallow sump for my 2.0 Zetec to have any chance of getting it under the nosecone/bonnt.

Iv got a silver top zetec in my luego locost. The chassis is the same as book. The steering link clears the filter by about 190mm with the stubby renault filter on. The main problem is the height. Iv got Velocity bodywork on mine because its a couple in inches higher.

What fuel system are u planning??

Many thanks for the replies guys, I was intending to use throttle bodies and megasquirt, complete engines with bodies on ebay for about £1000

What axle are you using ?

Moved the engine and box over 19mm on mine to give good misalignment on the prop for a live axle set up. This gives loads of clearance for steering ect

I have found the same issue with the height and need to loose at least 3 inches from the height although the sump is an escort one and only 170 mm deep already. The 2.0 mondeos have even deeper sumps.
It would be a good idea to fit the engine and gearbox as far back as possible even if it means modifying the foot well area for bellhousing clearance.

My sump will only be around 100mm at the front.

Another issue you may have if you are using a Sierra or similar pedal box is that it may foul the inlet system

Hi I have a Zetec in my Caterham and the oil filter used to foul the steering coloum as mensioned earlier, so I use a fiasta zetec filter, also raceline do a nice sump that lets you drop the engine into the chassis more Hope this is some help Regards Paul
