Where to buy wishbones?
gwmckay - 15/6/03 at 06:31 PM

Hi People,

I wonder can anyone recommend anywhere to buy a set of wishbones? I need all front wishbones and might purchase the trailing arms and panhard rod also if cheap enough. I'm in a real building mood at the minute having spent saturday afternoon making the transmission tunnel, and saturday night sitting on the garage floor changing gear and making car noises!

Any info would be great

Hi,
I bought mine from Lolocost but although I was initially fairly happy with them I would now not recommend them to anyone. The workmanship is very poor although the welding is quite strong. They are in what I would consider to be "off the saw" condition and require a lot of fettling to get them ready for the car. In particular I was very disappointed to find that the bush tubes were not concentric and not aligned through the same axis which caused a bind-up when I fitted them to my chassis. I managed to fix this through very careful bending and twisting but it is just not acceptable for something which cost me around £200 all in for the set. This was with balljoints, trailing arms and panhard rod admitedly.

Another big disadvantage is the fact that Lolocost only supply nylon bushes which are completely unsuitable for the rear suspension. They also use mild steel for the crush tubes and these have to be turned down in a lathe before you can use them. The bush tubes are also unsurfaced and had to be filed flat before use.

I intended to use rose joints at the back anyway or I think I'd have sent the lot back to Lolocost. Ultimately I will make do with the wishbones for now but I think I will be looking out for a decent set from stuart taylor or MK or I might even build a set myself.

In this case, Lolocost = Cheap and nasty! Steer clear!

HTH,
Craig.

BTW, I'm not the only one to have been unhappy with Lolocost's wishbones...

GW,

I get my front wishbones from Luego - and like others on here - would recommend them to anyone.

Same as above! Luego sell all the Locost bits off the shelf. Remember to mention where you got the recommendation!

Yup, having seen luego's offering, I'd say go for them too, or make your own, much cheaper that way.
