whats the normall chassis weight?

Somewhere around 80kg.

I know I could lift mine and flip it over myself when it was bare, still can just about lift the back end up off the ground

that is really heavy!!!

from wikipedia, when reading about donut's cateringvan,

quote:

The Mk 6 in many ways reflected Chapman's background in engineering: his designs resulted from a stress analysis of loads into the frame, they were extremely light (the Mk.6 space frame weighed only 55lbs (25 kg)),

I dont know how true the 25kg claim is, i would expect a lot of chassis failures at that sort of weight. And I believe there were quite a few over time on the racing lotuses.

OUr single seater chassis is just a tad over 30kg, and thats pretty slim, mind you some of the tubes are quite thick due to the rules.

Theres a screen shot of what cad says a de dion locost chassis weighs, with the suspension and an ali floor IIRC from when I did the drawings.

well if it were 25kg must been made from something like titanium

so it would be fair to say pretty much all the weight of a locost is found in the mechanical parts

My complete tube-frame chassis for the mid-engine Mini was right at 200lbs (91kg). Not light, but not unsafe either, I hope.

not sure about that. if you take a look at the austin 7 chassis, it is more like a bed frame.

there was one on ebay a few months back - there is not a lot to it; best photo I could find is:
