Seat belt mount
Thinking about it - 24/7/07 at 10:28 PM

Another question folks.

I have recently obtained a chassis that is mainly tack welded which I will soon fully weld up.
The seatbelt mount has threaded tube welded to th 3mm plate which is currently tacked to the chassis frame. Is this OK or should the tube pass through the plate and be welded on both sides for the SVA?

Picture in my archive.

How do I insert a pic with the message?

Mine are done like that with the 3mm plate fully welded and just a nut fully welded onto the plate.

Not yet passed SVA, but hope it's gonna be fine!

You can just make them out here:

Mine passed SVA with 3mm thick plates like that fully welded to the chassis, and with nuts welded to the back of the plates. Similar to as shown in "the book".

Should be ok then?

Mine is the same as David's and passed ok.

But! Looking at your photos.... don't go trying to weld some rusty plate to a painted chassis rail- you'll get a crap weld that's a lot more likely to fail in an accident (when you want it most!).
Please clean it up properly so you don't get a contaminated (and therefore weak) weld.

Hope that helps,
James

Yes, you will certainly need to do some angle grinding action before getting welding!!! Rust onto paint doesn't generaly weld that well....
