Top Rail Seat Belt Mounts
ChrisS - 31/1/08 at 01:24 PM

Does anybody know what the SVA regulation is for the mounting points of the top rail seat belt mounts. Ive built a book chassis and it seems with the seats in that mounting the seatbelts on the top rail means the belts have to go up at quite an angle to go over my shoulders.

I dont know what to do or whether this is acceptable?

Thanks

sorry that's a fail. They should be level with your shoulders. Have a look at the picture archives to see what others have done.

i think the measurement is 450mm from mounting point to seat cushion.

i failed first time on this and had to replace my seats with thinner ones

Here's what we did with ours. We got some square bar, drilled and tapped it, welded that to the 'A' shaped piece of 5mm plate, then welded the lot to the top bar.

Folks on this website have mentioned that in an accident the top bar will most likely twist, and I can see their point. We've had a couple of accidents in the car which required new front parts, but so far the mounts have held well and the bar hasn't twisted.

Oh, and try to remember to do it before you get the chassis powdercoated

Go to the seatbelt manufacturer's website and see what they recommend. That's a MUCH better source of accurate data instead of listening to us!
