Hi guys,

First post, one of many I hope.

I've been working towards building my first car for some time now and I've got a simple question:

The McSorley 442, when completed, what is the total distance from the outer edges of the front wheels?

I appreciate that it all depends on the size of the wheels, but I'm just after a guideline as I've got a limited amount of space down the side of my house (due to an extension going up) and I'm after some idea of the access width requirement for the completed car.

Any measurements are greatfully received.

Its probably not that important it's a 442 as the it will be widest at the rear wheels. Very roughly 1.8 meters. My car is a standard locost chassis but the sierra diff and shafts dictates the width.

yip, though 1.8 meters sounds very wide for a book locost, anyway if you could get a sierra in then your ok...

May sound a bit odd but you could conceivably make a simple ramp that lifted the car up on one side (say a drive on thing) so you could stuff it into a tight space.

As ^^^^ but remember that its your rear wheel arches that will be the widest point so add on a little to the overall rear track to allow for this.

I have built a 442 and the back is the widest, as said, dictated by the sierra drive train. Max width, therefore is 442 chassis plus width of rear wings to cover the wheels

The front width is dictated by the wishbones you make, I used standard Luego velocity, but if I'd made my own, they could have been any width I chose.

Guessing a bit here.

But the 442 is 44" wide isn't it?

Plus another 23/24" for the two wings.

So 68" which in your foreign money is:

1.72m ..... I think!

^^^ Sounds about right. Mine is going to be about 1.9 metres with my jag diff and bones

A Tiger Supercat which also uses the standard Sierra rear end unmodified is 1m 67cm wide across the rear wings. This still allows fitment of 205 section tyres on standard Ford fitment wheels (ET38). Cant see any other car being too far away from this with the Sierra rear suspension in unmodified form

if your using std wishbones on the front , then yes the rear will be widest , my total width is about 69 inch .
