Rivet or Rivetnut?

Hi chaps A newbie to all this. Got a mac1 worx on order I posted a topic what tools i need?
People say rivet gun some say rivnut??
what is best know they do different jobs but is the general idea to use rivnut instead of rivits to remove panels at a later date???

Buy both.
You won't regret it!

You can get away with a cheaper Rivet gun, but cheap RivNUT guns aren't the best. But it all depends on budget and I don't know yours!

I would also buy a lazy tongue rivetter if you want to be able to use your forearms after doing your floor......

Both!

You'll need a rivet gun to fix things like the floor panel, i.e. those panels that need to be permanently fixed

And

a rivnut gun to fix things that can be removed later i.e. rear wings.

P.S. I had virtually no tools when I started my build (when I needed loads) and now it's finished I have a tool cupboard full of them which rarely get used. How does that work!?!?

rivet gun - buy one with a swivelling head - axminster tools and frosts sell them.


really really handy to get into those awkward spots.

contrary to what has been said, panerl held on with pop rivets are removeable - you needto drill off the rivet head - the rest ofthe rivet will drop into a chassis tube so if you do this too often and are unable to fish it out, you will see the weight of your car increase overtime

And they rattle so spray through the whole with waxoil to hold the bits.

Iv got a long arm riveter that does both rivets and rivnuts Folds up into a nice case. Good tool. Just trying to find a link to it but cant. Im sure others have it aswell. Also a little hand riveter for the tight places.

Unless you want aching arms get a compressed air rivit gun, these are fantastic. You will only need a small compressor to run one.

If you can hear a rivet rattling in your chassis your car is a lot quieter than mine

The long arm riveter looks a good option for saving effort on the big floor rivets.

And , unlike with a hand riveter you will be able to use steel rivets on brackets where you want a bit more strength .
I made a rivnut tool from a strip of 3mm steel.......cost nothing .

someone on here (petef ?) has the plans for making your own rivnut setting tool. I gave my dad the plans and got one back the next day.
