What should a bare welded chassis weigh?
Depends on the chassis... ???
OK, book chassis. Looking for a range - like x is typical for a book chassis, but y is ultralight. Gives me an idea of where my (non locost) chassis will come in.
Someone mentioned recently on here that a book chasis weighed around 68kg (in a thread on the Apsid 7 clone who's composite chasis weighed a claimed 75kg).
It's difficult to do a comparison. In 'the book' Ron holds one above his head, but it doesn't have suspension brackets, floor
etc.
A caged race chassis with a steel floor weighs a ton, well not quite but you get the idea.

Holding it's the easy bit, getting it there (and back down) is likely to cause you pain
live axle striker is about 62kg
This page is quite useful for weights

Strikers are at the lighter end of the spectrum.
Matt
I defy any person of average strength to pick and hold above their head a steel Locost (book) chasis.
This chap might do it though...(old Magnus Ver Magnussen)

Hi the chassis that good old ron holds above his head is the Aluminum chassis that MK thought they were going to produce.
As an example a Westfield live axle chassis complete with powder coating and suspension brackets BUT WITHOUT the rollcage weighs in at 45kg for an 18g
race spec item . And 56kg for a road spec 16g item.
The only extra to add to those figures to gain a comparison to a book chassis is the extra rear top rail and two rear uprights to the top rail.
And a full race spec rollcage should way no more than 24kg.
Cheers Matt
Takes two to lift my chassis, with some puffing, as it can be an awkward bit to hold (depend who gets the rad mounts stabbing them.
Then again i have manouvered (on skate wheels, whilst on its side (quite easily) and wheeled it about like a barrow, when rear axle is in situ and
manouvering to garage to install engine and gearbox.
GTS chassis was pretty light. Guess about 60kg.
I know I could manhandle it on my own fairly easily while i was riveting on the floor etc.
