Next build hat on.
Has enyone any experience of building a 356 porker replica (aka Doc Hollywood)
I dont want a rebodied Beetle, but something cheapish and fun
Cheers Paul
does Steve know.
It can be a nice surprise when he comes back off holiday.
The wife says the next cars got to have a windscreen and a ?normal? engine. But then what does she know
ha ha, ye they dont know that much, especially, how much we spend on these cars, .
You've got a 4 cylinder, 4 stroke just like the majority of cars out there. So that's normal...

I' ve not heard of one that isn't based on a beetle chassis, apart from an abortion that Banham were offering a good few years ago. That was
based on a Metro, but it didn't (couldn't) work because of the rear wheels, porsche replica needs big wheels and tyres (not low profiles) to
look right and the Metro suspension couldn't accommodate them. The pics in his adverts were of a real 356
John
Paul, have you had a look at the April edition of Complete Kit Car. They had an article on Porker replicas.

ps. Fury's have full screens...

What about the Skoda Rapide based ones?
http://www.madabout-kitcars.com/kitcar/kitcar_details.php?64
Looking into the Rapide though it seems a little rare these days!
About 130bhp in them though - That's a lot pokier than I would have thought!
in the usa , some are fitted with VTAK honda .
How about a Westy 11?
I fancy one of those next myself, but maybe a bike engine rather than the A series...

i re commisioned a skoda based kit recently and it did look ok but the pedals were too far offset and it was a bit poor to drive . good quality shell though it weighed 925 kg on my brake rollers
Get a beetle based body and the plans for Rorty's tube beetle chassis.
I was going to suggest buying a shell and fabricating a tube chassis to suit, but Rorty's backbone chassis is a good thought if you strengthen it
as he suggests.

Porsche did change a lot of parts during the 356 production so it isn't really a beetle anymore.
Although a Beetle donor is better for a 356 replica then a Cortina is for a Cobra...
I would love to have 356 replica coupe one day. Are there any made?
