chassis Recommendation for a pinto
thwang - 6/9/08 at 07:08 PM

hi all
newbie question
will the pinto fit straight in the standard book chassis or would it be better to build the 7+4 or the 7+442 or how low can you fit the engine i think my old mk2 mexico sum was about 3 1/2" front the ground.
thanks inadvance simon

Should fit ok but the mounts will have to be relocated

Loads of people have done it, a bit tight but not difficult, you will need a small alternator and a fabricated bracket. Chop the sump level with the bellhousing, move the oil filler to the back of the rocker cover.

Why not try what i've done, which was to add an inch to the chassis height from the "H" tube at the rear of the dash forwards, it's allowed a zetec to fit nicely

I,ve got a standard chassis (original BYOSC for £250) with a pinto sat in it, the transmission tunnel will need to be different (wider) if you are going to use the type 9 gearbox.

Put the engine bay reinforcing bar in the opposite side and it will fit easier in a book chassis.
