Steel Plate Prices

Found a local company In chatham who can supply steel sheet and plate.

they can supply me with a sheet that is 1m x 1.5m 3mm thick for £60

does this sound expensive and can anyone suggest a good supplier in the kent area?

so thats about 35kg - so that works out at about £1715 per tonne
I think we pay nearer £900 - £1000 per tonne at work

3mm thick steel, so what kind of battle tank are you building then?

3mm is good for cutting up to make brackets etc.

Cant recommend anyone down their but i think they are "nailing your hat on" as they would say, i could supply a full 2000 x 1000 x 3mm delivered for that, i work at a stocklist and that is expensive not stocklist i meant stockistchris

Prices from this lot are not that bad - depends on what you by for me being in NE Scotland the free delivery over £75 looks like a good deal .

Haven;t used them before though .....

Did price 100mm x 6mm x 6m of flat bar and this is about 30% dearer than my local stock holder..... BUT I have to collect and they don;t open when i'm off.

A lot of the variations in pricing are down to how the stockholder feels about the sale in question.

Some can't be bothered to invoice or deliver small amounts, so are inclined to price small quantities higher than they would to a big customer.

So it's not necessarily that one supplier is a rip-off artiste and another isn't (although it might be)

to be fair it depends what quantity your buying it in, one sheet here and there will be much more than 5 here or 10 there, £770 a tonne is still on the steep side really can be bought for around 640 a tonne

You want 3mm in the correct width strip for brackets but it is easier to buy the brackets for suspension. Don't get hung up on wanting to make every little bit yourself, some of the jobs are too tedious and need doing accurately.

i want the plate for making the suspension jigs suspension mockup parts engine/gb mounts and odds and ends.

i already have the suspension brackets all the cp plates, wishbone plates etc etc.
