Check out this seriously cool Chevette project.

And all built by an 18 year old.

And who's that wild looking character wielding the hammer then, Doug? That strange 'SFS' bloke?

NigeEss - 19/4/09 at 08:00 AM

That takes me back a few years !
Had a couple of Chevettes along the way, one I put a 1.6 xflow in and a later one
ended up with a 2.0 SRi130 lump.

I just clicked from page 1 to page 7, thats some transformation. Looks like it'll be awsome when finished.

I was a big fan of the Shove-it Hunchback. Without giving too much away about my age (not!) - Who else remembers the Chevette HS first coming out followed by the HSR (Plastic Fantastic) and I remember my old man bringing me home a press pack for the "Black Magic". DTV, Tony Pond and slant 4's!!

I've been following that thread from the beginning.

It's not exactly a lightweight shell to be dragged around by a 900cc bike engine

I don't think the 18 yr old did that much, I'm pretty sure SFS has done the majority.

But...... It's cool as chuff as far as I'm concerned, my first car was a Shovitt

That is OUTSTANDING work! I am very jealous of his abilities at 18 years old!!! lol

The good thing for me though is seeing how he built his tunnel which is something I need to do for my project

The majority of that tubing is 16 gauge. Only the main hoops are 2.5mm wall CDS.

Two guys can easily lift the shell around as it is. Chevettes are only 826 kg as standard. We have replaces the 120+ kg engine and box with a 65 kg package. All front end panelling is to be replaced with GF.

Will cetainly bbe sub 700 kg and hopefully closer to 600kg.

Grant, the 18 year old really has done all of the work with only he occasional helping hand from me and plenty of advice.

He's a very talented kid. I take my hat off to him.
How long has he been welding/fabricating?

I stand corrected, I dunno why, I thought that SFS (sorry dunno his name ) had done most of the work (lazy reading).
If that's been done by the lad, then it's even better than I thought

Also, I'm amazed it's so light ! It looks sturdy enough to weigh 50% more than that, it should be fun..

PS I take it you're "Suffolk Flocking Services" then ? It's weird how you can "know" a poster from somewhere else and not connect them to their other online persona Sorry 'bout that

Looks like the advertising needs a re-think Doug! You're not reaching your potential customers...

(Mel - only teasing...)
