406.418 bhp/ton, to be anal about it

surely 500 kg x2 = 1000kg ( 1 ton)
200 bhp x2 = 400
surely 400 bhp/ton

I always do it this way, will get the same result:

One ton, divided by your car's weight, then multiply by your power.

1 ton = 2240lbs equivalent to 1016.064kg

1 tonne = 1000kg

bhp per tonne = bhp/tonnes

so whats the answer?
surely 400

Simon - 26/6/09 at 11:17 PM

tonne is metric, therefore 1000kgs
ton is imperial and 2240lbs

Both answers are right, just depends whether you want metric/imperial.

Metric easier to work our as:

1000kg
--------------------x bhp
your car weight (kg)

A "Tonne" is metric and a "Ton" is imperial so what the chaps are saying is that with 500kg and 200bhp you have 0.4 bhp per kilo so 1 "Ton" = 1016 kilos, not 1000 kilos therefore:

0.4 x 1016 = 406 bhp per "Ton" or 400 bhp per "Tonne"

See?
