Travel/Medical Insurance USA - long trip
wheelfelloff - 3/10/07 at 04:43 PM

Anyone have experience of good medical/travel insurance for a 3 month trip to the states? My daughter is about to go and we have found out her current policy only covers up to a month. They want £220 extra to extend, anyone know of a reliable insurer that might do it for less.

Thanks

Keith

Depending upon her age, STA travel are helpful. I have also found gotravel.com to be very good.

Have you tried Columbus Direct? columbusdirect.com
Should be suitable for going to America

From very recent experience AXA proved to be a life saver for us, literally.

Medical bill $32,000 + the cost of two weeks overstay and flights home for three people, had to cough $100 excess and that's it.

edit to add, the proof of the pudding is what happens when you need them, that's why I cant shout loud enough just how good they where when the chips where down.

Guys, thanks for the advice, your suggestions come in at about half of what the extension to her current (annual) travel policy would be. Mostly they are within £30 or so.

John, thank you for the personal recommendation and I'm sorry you had to find out the difficult way. I do hope your better half is on the mend and things go well from now on.

AXA quote just over £100 so very competetive and as you say the proof is what they actually do when you need them. As always you can't beat personal experience, job done.

Thanks again to all

Best regards

Keith
