Valtra - 6/1/13 at 01:15 PM

Do twins use liners? If so new liner if not its scrap

No I think it's a single casting

You may be able to have it welded and then rebored but need to find a specialist. May end up cheaper getting a new block.

Welding a cast block, not some thing I've heard of.

Have seen it done but its expensive and dependent on the quality of the repair and the skill of the bloke doing the work.
(Saw an XE block that had been repaired once and it was bloody awful )

Think i'd be looking for another block...

As I said it might not be cost effective.

Here's a link to a company that I just got from a google search

As others have said it may not be cost effective to get a liner put in if you can locate a decent S/H block. If not I would recommend taking the block to a decent engine reconditioning company and see what they say. I did once have a set of liners fitted to a classic Mini block that had had a load of other mods done to it because it was cheaper than having all the mods done on another block

I'm hoping that a friend on here has a decent S/H block that I can salvage , he's checking it for me .

Liners wont be feasible as the bores are too close together and anyway as has been said too expensive .

Also just want to re-emphasise how absolutely bloody delicious your Alfa is You are a very lucky (and tasteful) boy
