At the moment im trying to decide wich engine should go in which car
should i put the stage 1 rs2k(150bhp as standard + my mods) engine in my escort and chevy V8 in a yank tank locost?
or put the rs2k engine in the locost and find a home for a V8 possibly in the escort?
Ditch both and get a REAL engine - you know what I'm talking about!!
yes we do jasper, 1700 x-flow 234 cam, vulcan maxiflow BVH, steel posts, hepolite pistons etc.................
No, don't tell me you were going to say Japenese sewing machine engine.
no singer powered car thank you
there both more engine than any bike wanna be car every will be
Put the 4 cyl in the Locost and find another home for the V8. There are plenty of challenges for a Locost builder to overcome anyway, and the time and
effort of installing an iron block chevy in a locost is unlikely to be rewarded by the outcome. All IMHO of course
John
For it to be classed a real engine it has to have a 'V' before it and have double figure cylinders. Otherwise it'll just be a motor, you know the
things found in hairdryers, Sinclair C5's and Pugs.
V12's the way to go, all the real cars hav em, Ferrari, Lambo and of course, Aston Martin.
id like to see you shoe horn a V12 into a locost, it'd have to be luegos new chassis to ever take it.
but hmmm, sinclair donor????? now hicost may have the fastest but what about the quietest...........?? thats got me thinking...
a 0-60 time of ............NEVER!
nah its gotta be the V8
much more fun than a 4cyl engine
The only one spaeking any sense here is jasper!
Light engine sequential box and loads of revs
screaming in yer earhole no v8 can beat that
now runs and ducks for cover!!!

hi ho..
with complete honesty, a worked 4 would be infinately easy to use, but IMHO its just like being a sheep, afterall, thats what everyone else uses. the
v8 would be different, but its a bit unknown how it will drive. one important consideration is what your doing with your other car.. if this escort is
something you drive every day, or even on a regular basis, GO WITH THE 4 in THAT... you've got to think... with the v8 you'll be looking at 15 mpg if
your lucky, which will cost an absolutely prohibitive amount to run if its in something you drive often.
As for v12s, yea, they may work okey, but in reality, what v12 are you going to use in a locost??? the only one which is at all practical costwise
would be the jag one, which will still cost a bomb to rebuild/hot up. and for what result, maybe 500bhp in the end, which you could get out of a 350
chev for a fraction of the cost
your right mate
its just that my mates keep calling me insane ect
but its nice to know there are enough crazy people out there to encourage me
V8 yank tank it is then
btw its not somthing ill use that often as its mostly a road legal track day car
while we,re debatin engines any one no about the german W engines cant remember if they're merc or veedubs
I think it was audi that was working on the W12, two VR6 engines welded together. Might fit in a locost, would be short and prob not much wider than a V8. Unlike a Jag V12, 1m wide and 1m long. Only way that'd fit in a locost is if you sat where the engine should be and put the engine where you should sit.
I know there is a W8 Passat on sale at selected dealerships. Just under 300bhp sounds familiar, but don't quote me on the power.
As for the W12, wasn't there a sportscar with that engine? I'd have thought it'd be VW, but Dunc may be right saying Audi produced it.
I'd have a 5 minute look on the net but really can't be arsed.
Somebody on here will know....
the VW W12 pushing 660bhp
and then theres the bugatti W16 quad turbo pushing 1000bhp
here are the links to the pages about the cars

Napier engine
W12, 24 litres, 5 mpg, 3000 rpm max
See

for pics of a "proper" car. None of that Italian shite/ Would recommend viewing whole of site!!
VW ripping off other people ideas again (with the "W") like the narrow angle V in the VR6 was a ripoff of the Lancia Fulvia
All IMHO naturally

Thats more like it Simon, Weir pump capacity and nowt miles to your gallon. An engine that looks like an engine and not something that the starship enterprise is likely to come up against.
But where does the W come into things.
Dunc...When u say 2 vr6 engines welded to gether do you mean basically side by side in a vee formation???????? instead of weldin them end to end like
they did in the old days
Getting back on track......
Don't get me wrong, i LOVE V8's big time if only for the noise BUT it's all about power to weight ratio. If you put in a standard V8 the performance
is not going to be alot different to a tuned 4pot jobby (except for the torque). If the V8 is highly tuned you will be spinning your wheels every time
you pull away and the handling is going to be pretty awful i would think. I know someone with a V8 robin hood and he spins his wheels almost every
time he pulls away and that's with a standard Rover V8.
Light yet powerful engines are best for locost type cars. Some would say that smaller cc engines like 1100 and 1300 are more fun because you have to
actually work at driving the car especially round bendy roads. SO if you want motorway cruising then go with a V8 but i think IMHO you would be better
off with the 4 cyl engine in the Locost.
V8 in the escort...nice!
Johnston,
I've posted a very, very rough layout (in pic archive)which should show you the "W" format.
Hope it helps
