Duratec Sump
keith2lp - 15/7/07 at 05:46 PM

Hi

I am in the process of changing from a Pinto to a Duratec in my Velocity.

I have worked out that I can get enough ground clearance with the standard sump as the Velocity has a taller bonnet.

Will I be ok with this or do I need to change it due to the conversion to RWD.

Thanks

Keith

i dont think that you need to change the sump because of the change of oriantation, unless its baffled then you would have to change them around, or maybe add baffles so prevent the oil starvation, not sure on this for the duratec engines, dont think pintos or zetec have any problems.

Hi mate,

I 'WOULD' change the sump.

The duratec is mounted the opposite way in a road car and the sump is designed to slosh the oil from the back of the engine to the front (in the sump) - or vice versa can't remember

when you put in a kitcar it goes from end to end - leaving the very real possibility of oil starvation.

I know it's a ballache - but spending a few hundred quid now will definitely save you in the long-run.

You might also need to modify your oil pickup pipe.

When I built my zetec - I put a baffled, reduced height sump in from the Westfield parts department - it's been perfect.

Just 'my' opinion for what its worth

Cheers,

Murray

Here's a steel one I made earlier.

There are some other photos in my photo area in the Duratec installation folder.
