Small Quantities of Steel in the Sheffield Area

I bought a part finished car so didn't expect to need any steel.

Turns out not to be the case as I need to sort out the seatbelts by adding a cross brace to the Roll bar and some lower mounts.

Also the pedel box looks like a bit of a lash up (the M/Cyl was angled by a wedge of steel just held in by friction). So I'm going to need some parts to make this area a little stronger.

Getting to the point, anybody know of anywhere in the Sheffield area who would be happy to sell me small quantities of CDS tube and 6mm plate?

Andrew

You could try Yellow pages. Sheffield is the place to be for steel. If you turn up at a place that sells it they will usually let you look in the offcuts for suitable pieces at a reasonable price. I got some of mine from Hammer Goodlad at Eckington, not a million miles from Sheffield.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Thanks Pete, I thought Hamer Goodlad was a made up name at first (I'm a Goodlad - maybe it's just me).

I live on the south side of Sheffield so Eckington is not far. Are they a good place to do business with?

I got my aluminium from them and some flat strip for reinforcing and brackets. They are a bit basic but will cut stuff up for you and don't charge a lot. Ring them to see if they have what you need. I went to MK at Langold this afternoon and got some oval wishbone tube, they might be worth a try as well.
