POR15 on Hammerite
I have the classic problem in that I started painting the frame in silver hammerite and it has chipped. I want to go down the POR15 route but do I
need to clean off all of the hammerite first

po15 does not like to stick to fresh metal or other fresh surfaces.
If it were me I would get a rotary wirebrush and clean off as much of the hammerite as I could... and then use Por15 Metal ready spray... followed by
the por15 paint..
Its really really really good, but only if you get the surface prep right! (oh, and use a breathing mask, it fecking stinks!)

I didnt think POR15 smelt that bad (but I guess it is all relative). Old diff oil on the other hand makes me gag.
It does cover well and as it cures with moisture and is excellent for keeping the metal worm at bay.

I decided to use neither for my chassis and other rustable parts. I bit the bullet (was hard bullet) and used Jotamastic 87 as a undercoat and
Hardtop Flexi as the top coat. Its a bit of a bugger having to mix the two pack and apply but I must say the stuff is bloody tough. It totally
knackers your brush as white spirit won't touch it. It doesn't seem to react to anything including painting straight over powder coat.
I've tried hiting it with a hammer to no avail. Heat gunning it doesn't do much except a mild brown tinge. I painted my vice with it and
tried to heat gun it off only for the paint under the Jotamastic to come off leaving the Vice shiney and new looking. I have been able to scratch it
with a chisel however.
Couple that with a twenty rust free garantee and it seems like its the perfect thing. It can be sprayed as well.
I bought mine from shepard marine.
