Opinions Please

Hi All,
Been looking at these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370316663899&ru=http://shop.ebay.co.uk:80/%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm38%26_nkw%3D3703166 63899%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1#ht_500wt_956

Has anybody used them, and if so, when welding them to the chassis will I have to grind off some of the coating first? Cheers,
Tom

It's probably better to just get the eye-bolts and bolt them in yourself. The nut on the plate in that picture is only tacked-on.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

The idea behind these IIRC is that they satisfied the blue book having a backing plate of certain size and thickness. They will be fine and you will probably ok without gringing before welding.

Steve

PS It stops them from pulling through a standard steel bodyshell, as above generally ok for scrutineering.

Cool, think I'll order some of those then, there are some FIA approved ones that look the same and are similarly priced so I'll go for those.

The nut doesnt looery well welded on to me, and would need fully welding i think.

As mentioned above, you don't screw the eye in from the side shown in the pic. You typically drill a hole in the panel (e.g. sill) that this is to be welded to and the nut goes into the hole. When the eye is screwed in it pulls the nut up against the thick plate so the welds are only required to stop the nut turning.

As above this is simply a reinforcement/stress plate mounted the other side of a panel to spread the load of the nut, they can be welded or riveted (be careful welding plated steel as it can give off poisonous fumes)

I don't think it's really suitable as a mount on its own

This one has a rivet hole already drilled:

Got some similar to those, the plate is threaded too and yes, the eye bolt goes in from the other direction

Perhaps rivet that plate to some welded in 5mm steel then?

Will get some of those bosses for the top mounts.

Cheers guys,
Tom

You could do, Westfield use the bosses for upper and lower mounts

Book Harness Mount

Why don´t you use the "Book" approach?
I`d rather buy the eyebolt and fabricate as per the book.

Beware of what you wish.. for it may come true....
