Is it worth going irs or staying book chassis
I want to try and cram a 2lt 16v DOHC Vx Engine in the chassis and was going to go book but everyone is talking about IRS and wondered if it was best
to go with that or stick with book chassis.

I decided to go IRS because there are loads more sierras about for donor parts than there are RWD escorts.

True i even have one on my drive at the moment but i am finding it difficult to find any good diagrams with measurments. Im not a engineer and don
want to modify the chassis to become week and dangerous.

looking at how MK, Stuart and others seem to have added irs. Just by adding a few bars to carry the suspension brackets, i can't see how you could go
to far wrong yourself

That's pretty much the theory i'm working on with mine.
I've got the diff mounted at the end of the transmission tunnel, and i'm now working on building a box around the diff to carry the wishbones.

All sounds good and am quite keen to go with irs but has anyone got a diagram of modifications to the book chassis to make it irs.

I'm going IRS- I've cobbled together how I'm going to do it from a combination of MKIndy, Avon, the one picture of IRS in The Book, and a few other
builders.
Look at Bass' pictures in his photo archive- there's some pictures of how Avon do it from their book.
I'd have thought the easiest way for definate plans is to buy the Tiger Avon book.
It's about £20 from Amazon (note: follow the link from this site- then ChrisW will like you! ). For only £20 it's gotta be a worthwhile
investment and apparently it's quite helpful with a lot of other stuff.

having gone an irs route, the experience has shown it adds a lot of complexity and time.
doing it again, i would go beam axle every time.

My IRS is nearly done now with only about 3/4 bits more to put tack on. It's taking me a bit longer now as I didn't CAD my design and my
trigonometry isn't good enough to have worked out all the pieces in advance so some bits are being 'trial and error' fitted which takes far longer
than having a proper cutting list as per the rest of the chassis!
As Steve says- I probably won't do one with IRS again because of the complexities involved (although a second time would obviously be much quicker).
Also, if I do another Locost it'll be an ultra light BEC so I'll want my chassis standard width not 4" wider like mine.

What is de-dion and are you using a standard chassis size without any mods to get in Vx engine and is it 16vXE of 8vSOHC and do you need special
upgraded brakes to pass it through sva?
