Engine mount
Have made up some engine mounts and then had to make some major adjustments to the engine position. I've used a few spacers including 2 bits of
25mm box section aluminium I had lying around. Is this going to be strong enough and good enough for the iva man? Obviously I will be tidying it up
just wanted opinions whether its ok or I should start again. See photo

Looks sturdy enough, assuming the boxing is 3-4mm thick? What is the box section doing as a spacer?
Why not just angle the bracket to meet the block?

Yes the aluminium box is 3mm thick. Reason for it being that I've altered the engines location since I made the mount. Took me forever to cut
the mounts with a hacksaw and don't fancy redoing if I can get away with this.

I wouldnt be be happy with aluminium spacers, even at 3mm thick.
The thickness question was about the main mount, (which I assume is steel)
I would spap for steel or redo the mounts.
Sod using a hacksaw, use an angry grinder and 1mm cutting disk!

not meaning to be offensive at all....I'll just get straight to the point and not waffle......
the ali spacers are no good.....
the idea of using spacers instead of remaking the engine mounts is just a complete bodge.....
if it was me, I'd remake the engine mounts.......however if you want to bodge it, then replace the ali section with solid bar.
dont cut corners....its a slippery slope!!!

Unless you use crush tubes through the box it will fail.
They need remaking.

You could just re-make it now - or you could wait untill the SVA tester stops laughing , book the re-test , and then re-make it .
Its up to you .

Fair enough point taken - will remake. I sometimes have the mentality that I can fix anything with a coke bottle, roll of tape, hammer, cold chisel
and fire

Possibly worth reconsidering that mentality if you want a car that wont break and cost you more time or money, or even worse, break and hurt you
and/or someone else.

Aw shucks
I do have a few simple rules to work by -
1 - if it looks right , it probably is right
2 - if someone put it together , I can take it apart (and figure out how it works.....)
3 - if its worth doing , its worth doing right
And finally - if ya gonna f*ck it up , f*ck it up properly
