rear roll over support

hello all I have some questions about roll over bars

I have a single seater that I am building with a mid engine.
the roll bar is quite large as it is made for the larger gent , I would like to fit a removable support at the rear with say 4 off 1/2"
rod ends , sort of x frame to rear of car .
questions are removable rear support allowed by motor sport and also would this affect iva

thanks in advance .

Won't affect IVA as long as you cover sharp edges

MSA have various classes, in production class anything goes provided it was made that way. Similarly IVA and no sharp edges re previous post. However the question is: Is what you are doing wise? My advise regardless of what you are doing: ask an experienced MSA scrutiniser they have seen it all. Then phone Caged Laser Engineering in Somerset and get the proper advise on the best way forward for your application. Or just ignore all the advise as mostly there are no rules, depends on what risk you are willing to take.

Which equates into use ethe correct sized tube, observe the head restrictions, height above helmet, distance to head rest and stay lean back angle.

Make sure the terminating chassis plates are the correct thickness .

1.6.3. Single Seater Racing Cars
The rollbar must be symmetrical about the lengthwise centre-line of the car and of minimum height 90cm measured vertically from the base of the cockpit or 92cm measured along the line of the driver’s spine from the bottom of the car seat. There must be at least one brace rearwards from the top of the rollbar at an angle not exceeding 60° with the horizontal, this brace must be the same diameter as the rollbar, if two braces are fitted to the tube the diameter may be reduced to 26mm the wall thickness being maintained. Where two braces are fitted, they may be rearward or forward facing.
The width inside the roll-over bar main tubes must be 38cm minimum measured 60cm above the base of the seat. It must incorporate a crossbrace to restrain the driver’s head and give rearward support. The top hoop radius must not be less than 10cm measured at the centre line of the tube.
Minimum material
Cold drawn seamless Carbon steel 350N/mm2
Minimum dimensions
42.4 dia. x 2.6mm.

Or run as a road registered car which requires none of this !

I dont think rod ends would be acceptable, the blue book has quite a few connection details so worth checking there first.

Aren't you building a road car Bart? I tried to make my current racer road legal and found that the two sets of rules and requirements (IVA and MSA) are both detrimental to the other so if you make a car that meets both it's not as good at either (if that makes sense).

What Motorsport are you actually going to enter? If it's just track days and the car is road legal then just use the MSA rules and extra information. If it's just road going class sprints then it could get really messy having a caged single seater road car as some scrutineers may want to see full single seater compliance whereas others may not. If you want to do full on single seater events then the road going flumpf will really hamper your efforts.

see the point , needs to be one thing or tuther !
its primarily a road car with track days in mind , also personal safety .
one of the big problems I have is the roll bar is so wide compared to a true single seater , making it very difficult to "look sexy"
and maintain some sort of structural integrity

How wide is the roll hoop? Also what material did you use? If you haven't meat the MSA rules on material or construction for the main hoop there is no point doing anymore MSA compliance.

I considered the spider type arrangement for the rear end but an MSA compliant single seater either needs a single rear stay of the sane diameter as the roll hoop or two of 26mm OD so I'm currently having a re-design.

I'm looking forward to seeing how differnt our two similar cars in concept end up being when one is built for road and one for racing.
