in the Chris Gibbs version of build your own sports car the front frame sections ff2 and ff3 have got a 26 degree v cut into it at 69.5 mm and then bent to 26 degree and welded back up, the question I want to ask is, do I have to do this or can I cut it as in the Ron Champion book without the v and re welded?? any comments greatly appreciated. thank. Ron.

I cut and rewelded. Mainly because if you don't, the face for the suspension bracket won't be flat. You have to introduce a slight twist to the short upper pieces, and you can't do that on just a bent bar.

I'm probably not describing it very well, but it's worth considering, to save a weaker joint later on.
