Newbie just getting started
Hello all
I am new to the kit car world and I am after some advice.
I want a project that I can work on with my two sons and hopefully use on the track eventually.
We want to build a motorbike engined, lightweight car for use solely on the track.
Can anyone point me in the right direction chasis wise? Front engined?, rear engined?, steel?, aluminium?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
PS I have a ZX10 1000cc complete engine and gearbox that we hope to use in the project.

What part of the country are you, may be better to look local so you can touch and feel.

I am up near Newcastle.
I like the look of the Sylva R1ots.
Just don't know where to start though.
I see that Riot cars have their own website where they sell the whole chasis etc but I want to make most of the car with the kids so that they learn
more.

if you want to do everything yourself and like the riot (and you are a competent welder and have time) then have a search for Midlana - a build to
plan rear-mid engine car. Otherwise it is probably back to the traditional locost/haynes, these can be bought as just plans, cut metal kits or as a
prebuilt chassis, choice is up to you.

If its the first kit you have ever done i would recommend buying the kit and building it with full.manufacturer support.
Just because th chassis os premade and out the box it does not mean its going to be easy.
Less often now, but not to long ago, there was regularly people selling unfinished kits. Started with all of the will in the world. Some didnt even
get past fully welding the chassis!
It will be far more fun fitting and done all of the good things than cutting meters of metal up and spending weeks welding.
Thats my 2p worth. But then I like driving far more than building!
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

If your making your own you have few choices depending on use.
Totally one off.
If your looking for more of a set of plans build.
Locost. Can be all things to all men but the original donor is very rare.
Haynes Roadster. A bit chunkier and as above but can be based on an mx5.

Tiger Avon but that's more of a build manual for there kit.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas.
I will have a look at all the mentioned websites and bear in mind the pros and cons of each build method.
Building the whole thing sounds ambitious for a first timer but I have time on my side for once.
I do like the look of the Midlana.
And I will definitely be getting the book!
