Just starting out
Hi there going to be building a locost bought a part built chassis from eBay very cheap, I'm leaning towards it's a Ron champion spec book
build, I've got a Haynes book, but looks like I'm needing the earlier book as well, I've also got a e46 325i that's rotten
which is going to be a base for the running gear, can anyone identify my chassis and are my plans feasibly with this chassis, cheers jay

Not sure about the chassis, but I have to be brutally honest and say that I'd never consider putting that engine in a Ron Champion design. His
design was based very much around the 1300 or 1600 engines available in the donor car, and there are posts on here that suggests anything bigger will
overwhelm it.
That is just my opinion though, I have no documented evidence.

Dave666 has about 300bhp in a Locost chassis so id say they are quite capable of running whatever you want too.
The earlier chassis was built around mk1/2 escort parts with solid rear axle.
The Haynes chassis is based on Sierra/mx5/bmw options so might be better to build the Haynes roadster as it's designed for independent rear
suspension.
But either chassis are quiet capable!!!
My Haynes chassis has no problem with 272bhp/309ftlb and is getting a power increase later in the year. (100bhp+)

you also must have the iva manual, which details
minimum build standards to work with.
the mot manual can be very helpful too

There were a few discrepancies even with the old book, better see Haynes forum as well.

I'm currently building a McSorley 442E chassis (similiar to locost chassis but longer/wider/taller - google it, plans are freely available). The
442E is designed for solid rear axle so I'm modifying the design to make it a haynes roadster rear end so I can use BMW diff and IRS. My donor
was a 5 series BMW with the 2.5 6-cylinder double vanos engine. Was hoping to use the BMW hubs but I found the suspension setup far too complex (and
heavy). Instead I have opted for the easy option and picked up front and rear sierra hubs and driveshafts that I will somehow graft onto the BMW
driveshafts attached to the BMW diff.
The engine is quite tall even though it is partially on its side, may have issues height wise with the standard locost chassis - although it has been
done.
Good luck, BMW 6-cylinder locost will be awesome. (My build is in the build diary section)
If it ain't broken, fix it anyway (just because).

Have fun stripping the BMW, I couldn't believe how much wiring loom and $#!t they squeeze into their cars!
