Arc welding a chassis, can it be done?
I have seen this subject title for quite a few threads, and have said that with an oil cooled machine with a high OCV it is very dooable.
If you want to go this route, this is the welder to do it, no connection and all that, but this has to be an absolute blistering bargain. I would have
it if the chances of getting it across the country could be done economically. A really excellent, reliable gem of a welder.

I agree - I've used one of these when I did a training day at the local agricultural college. It will give a very stable arc that makes welding
soooo easy. The tutor plugged into 80v and stick-welded 1mm sheet steel - although he did add that 30 years experience helps as well. 
You have to note the weight, though - 114Kg! Not trivial in a 2'6" cube... real hernia jobbie.

Use them all the time at work. Nice stable current and very nearly 100% bulletproof (we have blown one up in the past), just don't let it fall
over, the oil stinks to high heaven, even worse than diff oil.

I am half tempted to bid and do a 1000 mile trip to get the bloody thing!

Agree totally Mark, great little welder, made my stainless 16g headers with one. Dunno if it still holds, but at one time Lynx used to deliver a
pallet (of anything) up to 300kg countrywide for £50.

I had an ancient oil cooled welder given me a couple of weeks ago. Never heard of the make, Triangle. It's a 140amp and works well but needs a
new earth clamp fitting. Also got about half a cwt of mild steel rods of various types and sizes with it, mostly Murex.
