FU1 and 2

I have read many of the posts that point to leaving FU1 and 2 out until a jig is made for the front suspension brackets. After this is complete these tubes still go in the same position is this correct? on further note if these have to be moved should I wait to place Tubes S and T until after FU1 and 2 are placed?

Easy bit first,

Don't fit S, T or R until you have trial fitted your engine, these tubes are there to provide stiffness to the engine bay area in particular. There are other methods of incorporating the required rigidity if these members foul your engine installation.

FUs

There are several solutions to the positioning of these tubes, read the other posts and get to grips with how others have positioned them.
My slant on the problem is thus,
The book has an error in the construction of the upper wishbone and instead of building in about 5.5 degrees of castor you only get half of that, (not good for self centre of the steering). To correct this I redesigned the upper wishbone to give the correct offset, and ensured that the wishbone mounting brackets would sit centrally on FU tubes and L tubes.
The second part of the problem is that for the axial allignment between the upper wishbones to be correct FU cannot sit centrally on the F & J tubes, (it has to be set inboard by about 6mm). This is a fairly critical area and the allignment should be as close as possible hence the need for some form of jig to allow FU to be fitted in the optimum position.

S and T should not go any where near the engine, unless your using a particuarly long engine.
I made the mistake of welding in R too soon and the only solution is to cut it out and start again.

S and T come close to fouling a rover v8 I think. not quite there yet. think it will foul with certain types of water pump, or something.

My only experiance is from a x-flow which is no where near tubes S and T. engines like a v8 are wide so come nearer to S and T without being any longer.

Yes S and T do come close to the RV8 and tube R would go right through the block if it wasn't moved... In fact the water pump on the SD1 RV8 will foul the front assembly LA/LB/LC/LD unless the water pump is swapped for a P6 type.

Cheers,
Craig.
