new in here
hey guys and gals, i am completely new to the kit car game,
i want to build or cheat (buy a rolling chassis) a locost 7 type 2 seater with wither a zzr1100cc engine or a 2.0 pinto engine on carbs.
i dont know where to start can someone please point me in the right direction.
i have experience with modifying cars and i thought that a complete new car is the next stage. i dont have a big budget so i need to do things on the
cheap.
cheers

Hi and welcome to the site!
Take a look through old posts on this forum for about as much information as you need! in short:
Building from scratch will take longer than buying a kit (obviously). But if you have the time then its probably the most rewarding way to go. You
will need to be able to weld etc.
There are lots of manufacturers making 'cheap' locost sevens (take a look through the manufacturers on this site!).
Buy the 'book'. It will give you some idea of whats involved in the build.

Look on the main forums page and there are seperate forums for each of the main manufacturers.
Theres no one best manufacturer, or cheapest. Everyone will have a different opinion on the various manufacturers. It pays to go and talk to the
different manufactuers at shows, and blag rides in other peoples cars to see what they are like.
There is a huge show coming up at the end of the month at Stoneleigh (mear Coventry), come along and have a look.

Welcome to the madhouse.
I cheated too (bought an MK kit) 'cause my welding is rubbish and I'm very impatient.
Best bet would be to go to Stoneleigh and see the various manufacturers stands, but more importantly talk to the owners outside. They've built
the cars, know the pitfalls and some might even let you have a ride as a passenger.
I changed from 1.6l Pinto to ZZR1100 after 5 laps of Donnington in MK's demonstrator.
Hope that helps.

Making the chassis can be very satisfing/rewarding, but certain items like wishbones can be a bit tiresome and buying these and making chassis is an
option.

hi and welcome,
there are loads of options from buying plans and making your own everything to getting a pre-assembled turnkey car.
every manufacturer has their good and not so good points, but a good start would be to look at the guys on here and give them a call - and see who
seems the most helpful.
if you can, i would reccommend visiting the manufacturers or going to a show to get a feel, and a drive of one of these cars.
prices vary from very little (couple of k) to over 20k for a fully build westie.
how much work you are prepared to /can do yourself has a massive bearing on the overll cost.
one last thing,
the guys on here are a good bunch, and everyone has something to say about their choice of car.
all the best
Tom

Hi. Welcome. I started on Ebay. Bought everything off there then discovered this site halfway through the project. Everyone is really helpful! This is
all you need, Ebay and the Locostbuilders forum! Good luck!
Cheers

kit building
welcome,
make sure you have a clear, dry garage to work in. This will make life much easier.
I'd definately go for a bought chassis. Approx £400-£500 on average but it will get your project on to a good start. things like brake pipes and
wiring loom can be put in before you have decided on engine options.
Most important, if your married/have a girlfriend, budget for the extras needed to keep her happy during the kit build !
"just like that !"
