Steel floor

I'm using mild steel for the floor pan of my car and am planning on welding it in.

Does the floor want to be welded right round the edge to seal it or say welding short runs with a gap between them?

If using the second option how should it be sealed (if at all). Will a good covering of primer and paint be enough?

*most* folks stitch weld one side (inside or outside) and either alternate stitch weld the opposite side, or stitch weld inside and weld completely around the outside.

As for sealing, some silicone sealant would be fine.

When stitching dont make the runs too long or you will get the greaded 'boing' effect as the floor will distorted due to the heat generated.
