any7one got some 18 mm tube?

plan B to resolve my track rod length problem is to find track rod ends with male thread and join them to my track rod using threaded tube.

A lot of people are building wishbones/chassis with round tube so I am looking for two short lengths, 100 mm each with a 12 mm internal diameter and 18 mm external. Is there anything like that available and any one got some offcuts?

This will be tapped with M14 thread leaving over 2 mm wall thickness - should be strong enough?

MK supply track rod extensions with the Indy. Thay are turned from solid round bar with male thread one end and female the other. They are probably about 100mm long as well.

They also have a set of flats machined into them so you can use a spanner to tighten them against the TRE and a lock nut.

Could you use these?

Cheers

I know, as do rally design. Doing it that way requires cutting and extending the thread on the track rods - not possible to do with a die as they are hardened so I need to take the steering rack apart and get them to someone with a lathe to machine - that was plan A.

Plan B should be easier for me to do at home once I have the tube and get the taps.

I would feel inclined to go for something a bit bigger than that and definately not in ERW.

I went for Hex Bar and drilled the ends - gives around 4mm wall thickness IIRC. I then used M14 bolts cut down from Ford spares (owing to the rolled threads) and loctited them into the bar.

Even this is isnt ideal since preferably the internal threads should have been rolled aswell.

Maybe buy some from Luego or MNR?

interesting; I will check tonight but the walls on the track rod and steering link in a Series Landrover into which the track rod ends screw into aren't more then 2 mm and those get more twatting off road than any road car ever will.

well I was wrong; the LR track rod is 27 mm dia with the trhead being 20 mm hen ce 3.5 mm thick.

so anyone got some 20 m m tube?
