Can anyone tell me how to work out what thickness/size of material I need to use for certain jobs

Two buckets of nowt to one bucket of sky hooks usually does the trick

If you dont know how to work out bending moments and moments of inertia etc. Just pick a size that looks good, double it and add a bit. Easy peasy.
