VIN/chassisnumber
What about the VIN/chassisnumber for a donorless self-build. Where to put it? How many and which characters?

VIN Plate Characters
Hi DS7,
Here's a suggestion for VIN plate characters. It comes from one of the Robin Hood builders, who used it for the SVA/registration procedure here
in UK.
The VIN needs to be 17 character long, and UNIQUE.
So you take your chassis invoice number... lets say "5678" and add
some more to it :-
1: Start off with country of manufacture (e.g. "GB" for Britain),
2: Add the chassis maker's name or initials, depending on the number of characters needed,
3: Add the last 2 digits from the year that the invoice was printed, (e.g. if this is "2002" then you use the "02" from the
end,
4: Slot in a letter for the engine type (e.g. X for xflow, P for Pinto)
So far you have "GBMKLOCOST02X"...
Now simply add the invoice number to complete.. ( add the "5678"
Your final VIN number is therefore - GBMKLOCOST02X5678.
LOL

VIN Plate position
DS7,
The VIN has to be permanently attached to the chassis, positioned so that it can be easily read by the vehicle examiner.
If you can stamp your VIN on to the chassis rail without causing any distortion, this should suffice.

the right way is to get one from your vro office.
the RH method seems to work tho....
I imagine its cos if you make one up, and it comes back on the SVA pass cert and you go the the vro with it, it all looks kinda official. prob will be
if sva man sees it as dodgy.....
