Bonding in floor

What is the best vhb tape to bond the floor in with? I've found some Jelly Tape that is 25mmx1mmx33m. Is this suitable for this application? Or am I better off just using rivets? I've never used anything like this before, so am looking for any advice. Oh, and how much do people pay for vhb tape?

Hi there

I used number 4611, general purpose stuff with the advantage of being heat resistant if you, for example, want to panel your chassis and powder coat the whole lot afterwards in one go. It is so easy to use, isolates the two metals and gives 'dead' sounding panels that dont ring/vibrate.

The only weakness is in peeling from corners under high load which i've eliminated by using rivets in the corners of panels. Technically there can also be a tendency for the bond to creep under load over a long time. Again the few rivets stop this, plus the fact that if you mount the seats on steel tubes then the floor panel only ever supports it's own weight.

It's actually a year since i did my panelling with vhb tape, and i've only last week added the rivets in panel corners like i always intended. In this time the panels haven't actually moved or begun to peel at all, but i put in the rivets anyway. My original test piece has been lying around all this time too exposed to temp extremes and crap, and that hasn't unbonded at all either. The 5" of tape sticking a bit of RHS to a bit of ally sheet can still easily support my body weight, so i'm confident the stuff is as good as 3M says it is.

By the way i think it was about 35 quid a roll that I paid which did my floor, sides, footwells, rear bulkhead and rear panel.
