I am planning on building a 4wd locost based on a XR4x4. I've seen that a few people have started this.

The question is has anyone finished?
Is it possible?

Does anyone have any plans to get me started?

I've had the book for a few years now waiting to get up the courage.

myself and liam are building 4wd sevens ,liam is using a honda v6 which will be turbocharged and i am using a 4.0 rover v8 with bike carbs. i wouldnt bother with the ford v6 as it weighs a ton and isnt that powerful plus you will have to do some mods to remove the front drive from where it is in the sierra to get the engine to sit where it should in a seven.
the simplest way is use the cosworth engine as dax do or something else and convert the gearbox to suit as me and liam have done. best have a look on the dax rush forum and get an idea of cost as they are the only people to offer a 4wd option.

Hi alanrob,

Yes it is possible. I'm using the McSorley +442 plans as a starting point and then modifying from there. Between the book, this forum, and the McSorley plans you should be able to source most of the info you require. I'm using the Cologne V6 from the donor initially, although as Froggy says it weighs a ton and I have a Rover V8 in the shed in pieces that I would like to put in eventually. There's a link to my website below if it's any help. I'm just about to put the floor in and get up to rolling chassis stage actually but the website needs updating I'm afraid.

I reckon the way forward for a 4WD system is two bike engines. Adjusting the front/rear torque split is just a matter of how the throttles are synced together, though you also have to deal with synchronising the gearboxes.
